Our substantial strengths in purchasing, manufacturing and retailing means that you can rely on us to handle your jewelry replacement needs promptly, professionally, and to the satisfaction of all parties involved. Please read the following procedures which outline the steps in our Jewelry Replacement Service program.
STEP # 1 ~
Contact CoreyJ - Here at Midwest Gems Corporation. Insurance Replacement Hotline: Phone:800-841.5957 Fax:309.764.3470 Email: CoreyJ@midwestgems.com
I personally will handle your claim and will ask for the insured's name address and phone numbers, as well as a description of the item(s) claimed, policy coverage and claim number.
STEP # 2 ~
Contact the Insured- Notify the insured that CoreyJ Jewelers/Gemologists a division of Midwest Gems Corporation is your recommended professional jewelry replacement service. You can give the insured our Hotline phone number, or arrange for myself to call and schedule a meeting over the phone. I realize that the loss of fine jewelry can be an emotional and traumatic experience for the insured. I've been trained to handle these difficult situations.
STEP # 3 ~
Pricing the Claim - Ideally, a recent appraisal should be obtained for each lost item. In other instances, through the process of consultation and drawing can we replicate the item which is missing. Jewelers who suggest replacement alternatives from their inventory are only limited in knowledge or capabilities. From this we contact the Insurance Company and settle on what they are willing to pay to replace your lost or damaged piece of jewelry and also be their lowest bid. Being lowest Bid does not take away from the quality of your jewelry but is taken from our side of the profit. On items $2,500 and above we will also make sure we pay your deductible.
Sometimes the insured does not wish to replace the lost item, but opts for an item of greater value. In this case, CoreyJ will:
a) Accept the insurance coverage as down payment for the new (higher priced) item.
**Remember you have a choice ~ 1. Choosing who will be your jeweler on this replacement. a) Replacing the item lost or damaged b) Taking a payout. c) Replacement the item with a different piece of jewelry in the same price range. d) Up grade to a more expensive piece of jewelry.
Explained below are a couple of ways we can go about replacing your lost or damaged item.
We can work with detailed information as well with limited information to accomplishing the same goal .
Example #A) From detailed information from an appraisal.
Example #B) With a rough sketch and description given by the client
Here are the two examples below on how this process works.
Example "A" ~ Working off an appraisal
Appraisal
Working off an appraisal
This appraisal was one of the better ones I have seen. It is very detailed and even has a picture of the item lost.Unfortunately some appraisals are done by uneducated jewelers and they turn out to be like ashort Japanese hicoo poem. Always make sure if you’re paying for an appraisal that the person that is doing this is qualified.
I have accomplished the replacement of jewelry from both good and bad appraisals. A well done appraisal, just makes my day a little easier if the appraisal is done correctly.
Any kind of picture really helps when working with a lost piece of jewelry. The picture will help clear up any detail that might have been misunderstood in the consultation with the client.
From this picture we can ask important questions that are not on the appraisal, like finger size and is the back of the ring hollow or solid, did it taper in size and how deep of a color was this stone?

Exactly what the client lost, is our main goal! Sorry we have not yet figured out how to replace the sentimental value lost. This is as close as it gets.
Example "B" ~ Working off a sketch and a description from the client.
Sketch of lost item
This note came from another page on this website, but it will serve the same purpose in showing you that from limited information and a bad sketch we can reproduce the item you lost.
Using a state of the art computer design system. We can replicate the item you lost. We can spin the computer creation so you can see every angle (top, bottom and underneath) to make sure this is what you lost in every detail. During this process we will also show you some rough sketches from the computer in black and white to insure that all the detail is in the finial rendering. If you require a wax model to inspect before the final piece is cast , that can be arranged as well.

The final view of this design is rendered by the computer through Matrix 3D Jewelry Design Software and can be viewed from any direction or angle.
